Ah, the art of self-care. Self-care for me usually comes in the form of foam rolling, journaling, meditation, running, a manicure and pedicure, reading, aromatherapy…or A FACIAL! So today I decided that it was time to pull out one of my favorite at-home facial products- the Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask!

So Origins explains this mask as…

“Nature’s complexion clean-up crew clears the way for skin to act its best. Bamboo Charcoal acts like a magnet to draw out deep-dwelling pore-cloggers, White China Clay absorbs environmental toxins, Lecithin dissolves impurities. Skin looks clear, feels perfectly pure.”

I give this mask a 4 out of 5. This mask definitely brightens my skin, and cleans and tightens my pores. The main reason that this mask doesn’t receive the entire 5, is because it does tend to leave my skin feeling dry (so I moisturize right after the mask is rinsed off) and because it takes a pretty long time for the mask to dry. While the mask is drying, you can’t really open your mouth to talk or drink water or anything.  The Origins mask feels AMAZING while it’s drying. There’s a quick feeling of cool while the mask is being applied, and while it dries you can feel the mask harden and your skin getting tighter. I LOVE this feeling!

My only issue is the dryness once the mask is done. The dryness seems to be a trend for all the masks I’ve tried that are meant to purify the skin, while I’ve tried hydrating masks that leave my skin feeling silky smooth! It would be great to find a mask that purifies the skin, clears the complexion, brightens AND hydrates at the same time! Any suggestions?! Comment below if you know of a mask I should try!

In the meantime I’ll keep using my love, the Origins Clear Improvement Charcoal Mask…followed by my night cream! Keep those pores tight and skin bright folks!
